South Dakota State Director of Athletics Justin Sell announced Wednesday the appointment of Mike Nagy as interim golf coach.
Â
"We are thankful for Mike to be able to immediately step into this role," Sell said. "He brings significant playing experience both collegiately and professionally that will aid in the development of our student-athletes."
Â
Nagy has competed professionally the last four years as a member of the Korn Ferry Tour, as well as PGA Tour Canada and PGA Tour Latin America.
Â
A Michigan native, Nagy turned pro after graduating from the University of Tennessee in 2016. He was a four-year starter for the Volunteers and recorded five top-10 tournament finishes. He ranked third on the team in scoring average as a senior.
Â
In addition to playing professionally, Nagy has coordinated junior clinics as a golf instructor in the Knoxville area through Holston Hills Country Club and worked with First Tee of Greater Knoxville.
"I'm excited for this opportunity at SDSU and look forward to working with a great group of young men and women," Nagy said. "My college and professional careers have prepared me well for this moment and I can't wait to get started helping these players achieve great things."
Â
Former Jackrabbit golfer Brodie Hullinger will also serve on the coaching staff as a volunteer assistant. Hullinger lettered at SDSU from 2005-08 as the Jackrabbits made the transition to NCAA Division I competition.
Â
The Jackrabbit men's team opens the fall season Sept. 5-6 at the Island Resort Intercollegiate in Harris, Michigan, while the SDSU women are slated to begin the fall slate by hosting the Jackrabbit Intercollegiate Sept. 13-14 at Brookings Country Club.
