NEWTON, Kansas - South Dakota State men's golf is tied for third place following the opening round of the Summit League Championship.
Jack Tanner is in second place on the individual leaderboard to lead the Jackrabbit squad.
SDSU posted a 282 (-6) team score Sunday, the same as Oral Roberts. The Jacks are one shot off Denver in second place and six behind North Dakota State in first.
Tanner is one of three SDSU players to finish the first day under par. Tanner collected six birdies and bogeyed only one hole to card a 67 (-5), his career low. He played the front nine holes 1-under before rolling in four birdies on the back nine to wrap up the round 5-under. Nate Deziel of North Dakota State is two strokes ahead of Tanner in first place with a 65 (-7).
Matthew Schaefer and
Liam Georgiadis are also under par. Schaefer is in a three-way tie for 10th place, using six birdies to finish the day with a 70 (-2). Georgiadis is tied for 13th with a 71 (-1).
Ty Kretz is 2-over with a 74 to sit in a tie for 30th. Kretz was one of four players to record an eagle Sunday.
Jonah Dohrer is 5-over with a 77 to sit tied for 44th place.
