Alex Kandolin finished in a tie for first place Tuesday in the Jackrabbit Intercollegiate at the Brookings Country Club, helping South Dakota State to a runner-up finish.
Kandolin put together the best 54-hole score of her career, 223 (74-72-77), and ended the tournament 7-over-par. She entered the day with a one-shot lead on the field and hung on to share the individual title with North Dakota State's Leah Skaar. Not only is this the first win of Kandolin's SDSU career, it is the first top-10 finish.
"It's a lot of fun for us [to play on our home course]," said head coach
Ericka Schneider. "It's been awesome to watch Alex this season. She is a lot of fun to coach and she has so much fun on the golf course. It's fun when she see one of your players win, especially when you see that their hard work is paying off."
The Jackrabbits finished with a 912 (+48) team score. Following Monday's 303 and 310 rounds, SDSU tallied the best single-round score of all teams across the tournament with a 299 Tuesday. NDSU won the team championship by eight shots over the Jackrabbits. St. Thomas was in third at +68.
Piper Stubbs followed Kandolin in the Jacks' lineup. The sophomore had her best round of the week Tuesday, carding a 74 (+2) to land in 10th place on the final leaderboard. She finished with a 231 (77-80-74) final tally.
Shakira-Ann Kuys and
McKenzie Mages matched Stubbs' 74 scorecard on the final day, which also moved the pair up the leaderboard. Kuys placed 11th at +17 (80-79-74--233) while Mages was tied for 12th at +18 (75-85-74--234).
Tatum Depuydt rounded out the SDSU lineup in a tie for 19th place. She was +23 (77-79-83--239).
