HARRIS, Mich. - South Dakota State golf's
Matthew Schaefer matched the Island Resort Intercollegiate's single-round record Sunday, firing a 66 (-6) second round at Sage Run Golf Course.
Schaefer, a senior, sits in a tie for second place after two rounds. He shot an even 72 on the first 18 holes, then collected seven birdies in the second round for the 6-under scorecard. He ended the day with four consecutive holes under par.
Schaefer leads the Jackrabbit team, which is tied for ninth place with 18 holes left to play. The SDSU team totaled a 597 (+21).
Jonah Dohrer ended the day +7 (t-49th),
Blake Schaper is +8 (t-54th),
Bryson Mercier is +12 (t-66th) and
Luke Honner is +17 (t-72nd). All four join Schaefer representing the SDSU team.Â
Ty Kretz, who is competing as an individual, had the next best Jackrabbit score behind Schaefer. He tallied six birdies during Saturday's 36 holes and is in a six-way tie for 18th place.

Tucker D'Allaird (+8, t-54th),
Noah Boraas (+9, t-58th) and
Tyler Seeling (+15, 70th) are also competing individually for the Jacks.
Toledo leads the team standings by five shots over Illinois State. Toledo's NJ Botha is atop the individual leaderboard by one stroke.
The Jackrabbits return to the course Monday for the final round of the tournament. Tee times start at 7:40 a.m.
