South Dakota State volleyball opens the 2023 season at Wyoming this weekend at the Rumble in the Rockies tournament. The Jacks take on Green Bay and Winthrop Friday, then play host Wyoming on Saturday. Head coach Dan Georgalas makes his first competitive trip back to Wyoming after serving on the Cowgirls' staff for seven seasons (2013-19).

KEY STORYLINES

South Dakota State enters 2023 coming off an 18-15 2022 season that included the Jackrabbits' first trip to the NIVC in program history.
State returns three starters from last season in Raegen Reilly, Masa Scheierman and Elyse Winter. The Jacks also bring back Katie Van Egdom and Alia Schlimgen, who saw significant time in the back row a year ago.
Raegen Reilly dished 1,307 assists in her sophomore campaign, which is good for first place on SDSU's single-season assists chart for the current scoring era.
Masa Scheierman was a Summit League All-Freshman Team selection last season. She ranked second in kills per set for the Jacks in 2022 behind Crystal Burk.
The Jackrabbit roster features a blend of eight returners and seven newcomers. The newcomer group is highlighted by the addition of Louisville transfer Sydni Schetnan, who joined the team in January.
SDSU will need to account for a few departures from last season, most notably that of Crystal Burk. The outside hitter alone accounted for 36 percent of the Jacks' kills a season ago and graduated ranking third all-time in career kills.
SDSU made several changes to the program's top-five lists in 2022, including new single-season bests in kills (1,701), hitting percentage (.228) and service aces (183).
Dan Georgalas enters his fourth season as the Jackrabbits' head coach. SDSU is 43-38 overall and 27-25 with Georgalas at the helm.
