SDSU FINISHES SEVENTH IN SEASON OPENER

HARRIS, Mich. - The South Dakota State men's golf team finished in seventh place at the Island Resort Intercollegiate, which wrapped Monday. Luke Honner turned in a 11th-place finish for the Jackrabbits.
The squad posted a 296 (+8) round Monday, bringing its final total to 858 (-6). SDSU finished five shots behind Boise State and two ahead of Coastal Carolina.
Honner recorded a 74 (+2) on his final lap around the course for a 211 (-5) final tally. Ty Kretz tallied a 214 (-2), placing 22nd, and Blake Schaper was 29th with a 216 (E). Tyler Seeling rounded out the team scorers with a 217 (+1) and placed 35th overall. Lucas Schaefbauer placed 61st (225, +9)
The Jackrabbits also had four individuals competing. Bryson Mercier also placed 35th, followed by Jonah Dohrer in 41st, Marco Lin in 56th and Tucker D'Allaird in 75th place.
Michigan won the team title with an 834 (-30) scorecard. Illinois State's Alex McCulla earned medalist honors (199, -17).
