OMAHA - South Dakota State improved to 12-5 on the season and 4-0 in Summit League play Thursday with a 92-55 win over Omaha at Baxter Arena. Five Jackrabbits finished in double figures and all 10 players in uniform tallied at least three points.
As a team, SDSU connected on a season-high 12 3-point buckets at a 48 percent clip. The Jacks got multiple treys from
Madysen Vlastuin (four),
Paige Meyer (three) and Madison
Madison Mathiowetz (two).
Meyer led all players with 18 points on a 7-of-9 shooting night. Mathiowetz contributed 16 points, three boards, two steals and two assists while Vlastuin finished with 12 points and five rebounds.
SDSU needed less than three minutes to put 12 points on the board, five of which came from Meyer. The Jacks had a 12-5 lead, then let the Mavs back within three before ending the opening period on a 14-2 run. The Jacks did not look back from there, stretching their lead to 28 just before halftime and as many as 42 in the fourth quarter.
Brooklyn Meyer and
Jenna Hopp posted 11 points apiece to round out the yellow and blue's double-digit scorers.
Brooklyn Meyer also had seven rebounds and a team-best four assists.
Mesa Byom just missed a double-double, finishing with eight points and 11 rebounds. Byom recorded both Jackrabbit blocks on the night.
Tori Nelson had seven points, followed by
Ellie Colbeck,
Tori Tollefson and
Isabel Aesoph with three points each.
Omaha was paced by 12 points from Aliyah Stanley and 11 from Cora Olsen. Olsen also tallied five rebounds. The Mavericks slip to 4-14 overall and 0-5 in conference games.
The Jackrabbits shot 55 percent from the floor, their second-best mark of the season, and held Omaha to 38 percent. SDSU nearly doubled the Mavs on the glass, 41-22, and pulled down 10 offensive rebounds that resulted in 13 second-chance points.
NOTES
- Isabel Aesoph connected on a 3-pointer in the final minutes of the game for her first career points.
- SDSU has held all four conference opponents to 55 points or fewer this season.
- Through Thursday night's games, SDSU leads the conference in scoring defense (53.3) and scoring margin (24.0).
