FARGO, N.D. - South Dakota State wrapped the first half of the Summit League season unbeaten after a 65-58 win over North Dakota State Thursday at the Scheels Center. The Jacks improved to 16-5 on the season and 8-0 in Summit League action.
Brooklyn Meyer finished with 17 points and five rebounds, both team highs, while tallying three assists and a steal. She was held scoreless from the floor in the second half but went 7-for-8 from the free throw line.
With 12 points on the night,
Paige Meyer surpassed 800-career points as a Jackrabbit. She also grabbed four rebounds and dished four assists.
Madysen Vlastuin went 50 percent from the 3-point line for nine points and contributed three rebounds and a steal.
Mesa Byom also scored nine points and tallied four rebounds, one block and one steal.
Ellie Colbeck and
Tori Nelson chipped in six points apiece. Nelson recorded five rebounds and a pair of blocks. The senior upped her career-blocks mark to 136, moving her into sole possession of third on SDSU's all-time blocks list.
The opening half of action stayed close throughout, with SDSU leading 18-15 after one period and NDSU leading 27-26 at halftime. Following the break, the Bison went up three with a layup, then the Jacks put together a 7-0 run for the lead.
Paige Meyer and
Brooklyn Meyer connected on a pair of free throws each and
Madison Mathiowetz drained a triple to make it 33-29. The Bison worked back to tie it at 36-all, then a 13-4 stretch in favor of the Jackrabbits sent them to the fourth quarter with a 49-40 lead.
SDSU scored just eight points over the first eight minutes of the final period, allowing the Bison to tie the game at 57 with 1:40 on the clock.
Paige Meyer gave the Jacks the lead for good with a driving layup at the 1:24-mark and SDSU connected on six free throws down the stretch to hold off the Bison.
Heaven Hamling and Elle Evans scored 18 and 17 points, respectively, for North Dakota State. Abbie Draper tallied seen rebounds.
NOTES
NDSU shot 35 percent while SDSU shot 34 percent from the floor. The Jacks shot 40 percent from deep and had eight 3-pointers compared to four 3-pointers at a 27-percent clip by the Bison.
