ST. PAUL, Minn. — Jenna Currier won her second individual event title of the weekend and led off the winning 400-yard freestyle Saturday as the South Dakota State women's swimming and diving team wrapped up competition at the three-day St. Thomas Invite by placing second in the team standings.
A senior from Denison, Iowa, Currier led a 1-2 Jackrabbit individual finish in the 100-yard freestyle, touching the wall first in 51.29 seconds, as she completed a sweep of the sprint events after winning the 50 freestyle on Thursday. Her 100 freestyle time of 50.98 seconds in the morning prelims put her fourth on the SDSU career charts.
Gigi Hioki placed second behind Currier in the 100 freestyle in 51.53 seconds, while Hannah Miller finished seventh in 51.98 seconds and Sara Juez took eighth in 52.48 seconds.
SDSU's top four finishers in the 100 freestyle made up the victorious 400 freestyle squad that concluded the meet with a winning time of 3:25.99.
Marissa Branham, meanwhile, completed a solid weekend with her second-place effort in the 200 breaststroke. The senior from Williston, North Dakota, took over fifth place on the SDSU career charts with her time of 2 minutes, 18.23 seconds.
Freshman Lucia Lopez surged into fourth place on the SDSU career leaderboard in the 200 backstroke with her runner-up time of 2:01.63.
The Jackrabbits also featured a pair of A finalists in the 200 butterfly as Emma Ingalls placed third in 2:07.21 and Poppy Mead came in fourth in 2:10.20. Isabella Gnewuch contributed a seventh-place time of 2:11.31.
South Dakota placed first out of four teams with 1,726 points, followed by the Jackrabbits with 1,239.
UP NEXT
The SDSU women will be off from competition until returning to the Twin Cities for a tri-dual Jan. 17 against Minnesota and St. Thomas in Minneapolis.
