ST. PAUL, Minn. — Jenna Currier continued her strong showing at the St. Thomas Invite by posting a runner-up finish in the 100-yard butterfly in school-record fashion Friday night at the Anderson Pool.
After winning the 50 freestyle in Thursday's opening round, Currier established a new Jackrabbit standard in the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.22 seconds during the evening session. That eclipsed the previous mark of 55.36 seconds set by Elisabeth Timmer in 2022.
Three other Jackrabbits competed in the B final with Sara Juez placing seventh overall in 57.88 seconds, followed by Isabella Gneuwch in eighth place, 57.98 seconds, and Hannah Warmbrand finishing 10th in 58.61 seconds.
Gabbie Ahrendt of South Dakota won the event in 54.90 seconds.
Currier was one of three Jackrabbits to post the top time in an event during morning prelims as she registered a top time of 55.51 seconds. However, none of the Jackrabbits was able to claim an event title as Gigi Hioki placed fourth in the 200 freestyle and Emma Ingalls finished fourth in the 400 individual medley.
Hioki clocked in at 1 minute and 52.31seconds in the preliminary round of the 200 freestyle, but dropped off that pace to a time of 1:55.74 in the four-person A final. Aubrey Douds represented the Jackrabbits in the B final and finished ninth overall in 1:54.62.
Ingalls set the pace in the 400 IM with a time of 4:31.87 in the preliminaries, but struggled to a time of 4:39.24 in the A final during the evening session. Teammate Hailey Creary came through with the top time for SDSU in the event on the day with a runner-up time of 4:31.06 to move into the eighth spot on the Jackrabbits' career charts.
A trio of Jackrabbits — Annabelle MacAdams, Kailee Crane and Mallory Knutson —were tightly packed in the sixth through eighth spots in the 400 IM. MacAdams turned in a time of 4:36.55, followed by Crane in 4:36.64 and Knutson in 4:36.67.
Three SDSU swimmers in the 100 breaststroke earned or solidified spots in the top eight all-time in program history. Hannah Miller moved up to fifth on the Jackrabbit charts with a time of 1:03.35 with her third-place finish. Marissa Branham moved up to seventh in the Jackrabbit annals with a time of 1:04.07 en route to a fifth-place finish and freshman Jessalyn Carpenter claimed the eighth spot in program history with her sixth-place mark of 1:04.31.
Fellow freshman Lucia Lopez swam to a fifth-place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.54 seconds that ranks sixth in program history.
The Jackrabbits also notched a pair of third-place finishes in relay events. The 200 medley relay squad of Lopez, Carpenter, Isabella Gnewuch and Currier opened the evening session by posting a time of 1:44.61.
To wrap up the night, the 800 freestyle quartet of Miller, Juez, Douds and Hioki combined for a third-place time of 7:41.86.
Sophomore Lily Davis added a sixth-place showing in 3-meter diving with a season-best score of 207.60 points over six dives.
SDSU will enter Saturday's final day of competition in second place in the team standings. South Dakota leads the four-team race with 1,303 points, followed by the Jackrabbits with 832 points. Saturday's preliminary session begins at 10 a.m., with event finals starting at 5:30 p.m.
