LAST TIME OUT: Northern Colorado Recap
The SDSU Jackrabbits took seven of the 10 matches on Friday night on their way to a 30-10 victory over Northern Colorado.
The dual began at 133 pounds, where the Jacks were faced with a tough matchup as No. 26 Derrick Cardinal took on No. 14 Dominic Serrano. Serrano scored a takedown in each of the first two periods on his way to a 9-2 decision and the 3-0 lead for the Bears.
No. 22 Julian Tagg went up against former national champion No. 2 Andrew Alirez at 141 pounds. Tagg held off attacks from Alirez throughout the first two periods but gave up a late takedown, allowing a major decision victory for Alirez, adding to the Northern Colorado lead, 7-0. Avery Allen took on Benji Alanis at 149 pounds. Alanis scored an early takedown to go up 3-1 after the first period, and it proved to be the difference, as Allen was unable to find a takedown of his own, falling in the match 4-3.
No. 18 Cobe Siebrecht got the Jacks on the board when he took on No. 15 Vinny Zerban. Siebrecht got an early lead by securing a takedown in the first period and scoring on an escape in the second. He fended off Zerban in the third, scoring consecutive ranked wins with a 4-1 decision over Zerban.
No. 10 Drake Rhodes followed up Siebrecht's momentum going to work against Clayton Ulrey. After two takedowns in the first two periods, Rhodes scored his third in the final period to secure a major decision, cutting the Bears lead to 10-7 heading into the intermission.
