VERMILLION, S.D. - The South Dakota State women's basketball team fell 73-54 to South Dakota Saturday afternoon at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.
The Jackrabbits struggled to find an offensive rhythm, shooting just 37% for the game and notching only five assists as a team. SDSU knocked down just four 3-pointers. The Coyotes, by comparison, were 46% from the field with 11 3-point baskets and 14 assists.
Brooklyn Meyer scored a game-high 27 points for the Jackrabbits and contributed eight rebounds and two blocks. She also drew seven fouls.
Madison Mathiowetz chipped in 10 points as the only other Jackrabbit to reach double figures.
USD's Angelina Robles scored 25 points to go with four rebounds and three assists. Elise Turrubiates added 19 points and 12 rebounds, followed by Molly Joyce with 15 points. The Coyotes posted a 31-29 edge in rebounding and 8-3 advantage in steals. SDSU committed 16 turnovers, which resulted in 27 points for USD.
The Jackrabbits trailed the majority of the game but stayed within striking distance through three quarters. SDSU could not get shots to fall in the final period and was outscored 20-9 in the last 10 minutes.
The Jackrabbits and Coyotes now have identical records at 17-6 overall and 7-2 in Summit League action.
NOTES
- SDSU leads the all-time series against USD 67-36.
- Brooklyn Meyer moved into fifth place for career scoring at South Dakota State. She ended the game with 1,827 career points, passing Madison Guebert's 1,821 career points.
