OMAHA, Neb. – South Dakota State got a career-high 11 kills from Tiara Gibson and Lexi Fowler posted her team-high third double-double as the Jackrabbits snapped an eight match losing streak with a 3-1 win at Omaha on Sunday, winning by the set scores of 22-25, 25-21, 25-14 and 25-14.
The Jacks improve to 3-15 overall with the win and to 1-4 in The Summit League, while Omaha falls to 6-14 overall, with the same 1-4 mark in league play.
Gibson's 11 kills led the Jacks, she also finished with six total blocks, one solo and a career-high five block assists in the win. Courtney Roberts and Mikala Hora both added nine kills, with Hora pitching in with 12 digs.
Lizzie Palmer tied with Fowler for team-high honors with 16 digs; Kacey Herrmann added 15 digs and Alanna Pengilly 12 .
Kelley Wollak led a pair of Mavericks with double figure kills with 13, adding 16 digs for a double-double, while Amy Taylor finished with 10 kills. Both Bailey Baxter and Michaela Schimmer also posted double-doubles in the loss; Baxter finishing with 18 set assists and 11 digs and Schimmer with 17 set assists and 14 digs.
The Jackrabbits look to start a winning streak next weekend, when they welcome preseason Summit League co-favorites IUPUI and Fort Wayne. The Jacks and Jags meet on Friday, while SDSU welcomes the Mastodons on Saturday, both matches begin at 7 p.m.
