BROOKINGS, S.D.—The five-time Summit League regular-season champion South Dakota State women's basketball team begins its ninth season of league play Wednesday when it travels to Denver for an 8 p.m. game in Magness Arena.
- The Jackrabbits, who finished the nonconference portion of their schedule 10-3, have won seven of their last eight games while Denver has lost nine of its 10 games and finished 2-11 in nonconference play.
- SDSU won its final nonconference game, 58-45, at Bowling Green Dec. 21. Senior Gabby Boever turned in one of her best outings of the season, registering 13 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 blocks and 3 steals.
- Denver completed its nonconference schedule Monday, losing to Long Beach State, 48-41.
- Wednesday's game marks the ninth meeting between South Dakota State and Denver. The Jackrabbits lead the series 7-1 after beating the Pioneers, 79-61, in the quarterfinals of the 2015 Summit League Tournament.
Noteworthy
- Denver is the last Summit League team to defeat the Jackrabbits. The Jacks lost their lone game in the series at Denver Feb. 11, 2015, 77-72. SDSU was without the services of leading scorer Megan Waytashek, but then-freshman Macy Miller recorded her first 30-plus point game with 30. Miller upped that mark to 31 points vs. Arkansas Nov. 18.
- Of its eight Summit League opponents in the last eight years, SDSU has one loss each to Denver, Fort Wayne and Western Illinois. The most losses have been to Oral Roberts (6), including four on the road, since 2007-08.
- South Dakota State is 6-2 in Summit League openers and 2-1 on the road. It's won its last four openers.
