INDIANAPOLIS – Led by a third-place finish from Olivia Olesiak in diving and fourth-place efforts from Kristin Erf and Alexandra Yaeger in the swimming events, the South Dakota State University women closed out the 2016 Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday with a second-place finish in the team standings.
Ten different Jackrabbits received all-Summit League accolades over the course of the four-day meet at the IUPUI Natatorium.
Olesiak, who was runner-up in the 1-meter diving competition on Thursday, turned in a third-place finish on the 3-meter board Saturday evening with a score of 251.15 points. The senior from Wyoming, Minnesota, has qualified for the NCAA Zones competition in early March.
Emily Moore turned in an eighth-place finish in 3-meter diving with 205.05 points.
Erf led a contingent of five Jackrabbits to swim in the 200-yard breaststroke during Saturday's evening session. Erf finished fourth in 2 minutes, 18.17, with teammate Kayce Smith right behind in fifth place with a time of 2:18.83. Three other Jackrabbits competed in the consolation finals as Olivia Bartel (11th in 2:25.70), Sydney Rasmussen (14th in 2:27.01) and Kendra Hinton (15th in 2:27.99) racked up additional points.
To close out the meet, Erf teamed with Katya Vakshteyn, Abby Zenner and Hadlie Overhue for a third-place time of 3:29.10 in the 400 freestyle relay.
SDSU also posted a 4-5 finish in the 200 butterfly. Alexandra Yaeger placed fourth in 2:05.27, with freshman Richelle Bruyckere taking fifth in 2:06.54.
Brookings native Cassie Hendricks also was an event finalist on Saturday, finishing fifth in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:02.51.
Denver made it a sweep of the team titles, winning the women's division with 1,066 points. The Jackrabbits were second with 534.5 points, while the University of South Dakota used a late surge to overtake IUPUI for third place by one point, 490-489.
