The highest-scoring offense and the toughest defense in The Summit League will battle to stay atop The Summit League standings when South Dakota State plays Western Illinois Saturday at 2 p.m. in the friendly confines of Frost Arena.

The Jackrabbits enter the game ranked No. 6 in Tuesday's CollegeInsider Mid-Major poll while the Fighting Leathernecks received 17 votes.

SDSU is in a two-way tie for first in The Summit League standings at 6-1 and with a 15-4 overall record.

The Jackrabbits improved to 7-3 and 3-1 on the road this season with a 72-63 win at Denver Wednesday.

Western Illinois has a 5-1 league record and is 15-4 overall. It was idle this week after defeating North Dakota State, 110-81, Jan. 14. The win was their fourth straight.

Saturday's game is the 20th meeting between the Jackrabbits and the Fighting Leathernecks. State leads the all-time series, 18-1, has won the last 18 games in the series and is 9-0 in Frost Arena vs. Western Illinois.

- WIU is led offensively by junior Emily Clemens. The point guard is averaging 18.8 points per game. She ranks second overall and ninth in the league (16.7) in scoring. The Fighting Leathernecks are averaging a league-leading 81.6 points per game overall and 79.7 ppg in league games.
- Florida Gulf Coast transfer Morgan Blumer and sophomore guard Taylor Higginbotham are also averaging double digits, scoring 16.9 and 14.7 points per game, respectively.
- Higginbotham averages a team-leading 5.6 rebounds. The Fighting Leathernecks are outrebounding opponents by 1.3 caroms a game.
- Clemens leads The Summit League and ranks 15th in the NCAA, dishing 6.6 assists per game. She also makes 2.9 steals per game.
