Coming off its 11th consecutive postseason trip and 20th 20-win season, the South Dakota State women's basketball team opens its 52nd basketball campaign Friday when it hosts Atlantic Sun member NJIT in the friendly confines of Frost Arena at 6 p.m.

The Jackrabbits, 23-9 last season, defeated MSU-Moorhead, 93-58, Oct. 26 and Northern State, 71-59, Nov. 2 in exhibition games. NJIT is coming off an 11-19 season.

Noteworthy
- The Jackrabbits have won 10 of their last 11 home games, dating to a 60-55 win over George Washington Dec. 11, 2016.
- SDSU is looking for its fourth consecutive season-opening win Friday. Last season, the Jacks defeated Creighton, 63-56.
- Macy Miller returns to the starting lineup after a season-ending injury that sidelined her nine games into the 2016-17 season.
- Both the Jackrabbits and the Highlanders were picked to win their respective leagues.
- South Dakota State received six votes in the USA Today Coaches preseason poll Oct. 22.
- Friday's game is the fourth meeting between South Dakota State and NJIT. The Jacks beat the Islanders in 2013 in Frost Arena, 71-46. State is 2-0 at home against NJIT.

- South Dakota State is ranked fifth in the CollegeInsider Mid-Major poll going into the season opener.

Newcomers Could Make Debut
- With two true freshmen seeing time in SDSU's two exhibition games, rookies Myah Selland and Tylee Irwin could make their collegiate debuts Friday.
- How did some other Jackrabbits do in their first career game? Macy Miller had 10 points and a pair of rebounds. Megan Waytashek was held scoreless, but had three rebounds and two assists. Megan Vogel had nine points and nine rebounds while the Jacks' all-time leading scorer, Shannon Schlagel, had six points, 10 rebounds and four assists.

- In the two exhibition games, four Jackrabbits averaged double digits in scoring. Guebert led the team, averaging 15.5 points per game. Thompson poured in 13.5 points and a team-best 7.0 rebounds. Miller and senior Chynna Stevens scored at a 10-point clip. Freshman Myah Selland dished a team-high 3.0 assists per game while Alexander averaged 3.0 steals an outing.
- The Jackrabbits shot 43.9 percent from the field, 32.1 percent from 3-point range and 80 percent from the free-throw line while scoring 82 points per game and giving up 58.5 in their two exhibition wins.

NJIT
- NJIT was picked sixth in the Atlantic Sun Conference. It finished last season 11-19 overall and 4-10 in the conference.
- The Islanders have two returning starters in junior guards Tatianna Torres and Kelly Guarino.
- Torres returns as NJIT's leading scorer, averaging 10.3 points per game. She also made a school-record 2.4 steals per game. Torres was named to the ASUN preseason all-conference team.
- Guarino returns as NJIT's sharp shooter, sinking 57 3-pointers and shooting 32.6 percent from long range.

The NJIT Series
- Friday's game marks the fourth meeting between South Dakota State and NJIT, and the Jackrabbits hold a 3-0 series lead.
- In the last outing, Megan Waytashek and Mariah Clarin led three Jackrabbits on offense in a 71-46 win Dec. 2, 2013, in Frost Arena.
- The first meeting, Oct. 29, 2007, in Frost Arena, had the Jacks beating the Highlanders, 96-30. Megan Vogel led four Jackrabbits in double figures with a game-high 25 points.
- Later that same season, South Dakota State ended its regular season with a 72-47 win over NJIT. SDSU opened the game with a 20-2 run and coasted the rest of the game. Jennifer Warkenthien led the Jackrabbits in scoring and rebounding, collecting 18 points and nine rebounds.
- Florida Gulf Coast (2013) and Kennesaw State (2006) are the other Atlantic Sun Conference members SDSU has played. The Jacks are 0-1 against the Eagles and 1-0 vs. the Owls.
