The South Dakota State men's and women's cross country program heads into championship racing Saturday when they travel to Rose Creek Golf Course in Fargo, N.D. for The 2019 Summit League Cross Cross Country Championships presented by U.S. Air Force Special Warfare.
Â
The championship event is set to kick off with the men's 8K race at 11 a.m. followed by the women's 6K at noon.
Â
Men look to four-peat at conference championships:
Â
The men's team, who was tabbed to finish first in the Summit League's Preseason Coaches Poll, have won the league title every year since 2016 and have captured seven titles all together (2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018).
Â
Last year's Summit League Championships hosted by the University of Nebraska Omaha saw the Jackrabbits place seven runners in the top-10 and come away with a score of 23— the lowest score by any Summit League team in the championship race, men or women, since SDSU joined the conference in 2007.
Â
In total, eight Jackrabbits took home First or Second-Team All-Summit League Honors, of those eight, six return to the line Saturday.Â

Â
Currently, Minor-Williams holds the Summit League's top 8K mark of the season after his 24:32.8 performance at the Under Armour Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind. on Oct. 19. Just behind him, junior
Micah Mather holds the league's second fastest time of the season with his 24:49.5 mark from Pre-Nats.
Â
The Jacks are the only regionally ranked team in the Summit League and currently hold down the ninth overall spot in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Midwest regional rankings. Â
Â
Women set for Summit League Championships Saturday
Â
On the women's side, the Jackrabbits will be looking to better their third place finish from a year ago when they scored 61 points, coming in behind South Dakota (51) and North Dakota State (52). Last year's race was the second-closest finish among the top-three at the league's championship race. The closest was in 2007 when Purdue Fort Wayne and Southern Utah tied for first (67 points each) and South Dakota State recorded third (68 points). Â
Â
Anna Donnay was the first current Jack to finish, coming in 15th with a time of 22:00.9. In front of her were former Jacks
Rachel King (third, 21:04.6) and
Emily Donnay (sixth, 21:26.6) who were each named First-Team All-Summit League.
Â
Currently, Donnay holds the Summit League's second fastest 6K time of the season with her 20:52.1 mark from Pre-Nationals.
Â
Ellie Friesen took home Summit League's Newcomer of the Championship honors last year after running a 22:12.25 to take 18th place overall and finish as the race's top freshman.
Â
2008 saw the first and only Summit League title for the women's team when the Jacks won by a score of 60 points, edging Purdue Fort Wayne (63 points).
