Winner of its last 13 games, the South Dakota State women's basketball team (23-6 overall, 15-1 Summit League) is the No. 1 seed in this year's Summit League Championship, to be played Saturday through Tuesday at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls.

SDSU begins its quest for a ninth Summit League tournament title in 11 years at noon against No. 8 seed Purdue Fort Wayne. If the Jackrabbits win Saturday, they will play a semifinal contest Monday at noon. Tuesday's championship game is at 1 p.m.

All of South Dakota State's Summit League Championship games will air on The Jackrabbits Sports Network with Scotty Kwas and Brad Peterson calling the action. The quarterfinal and semifinal games can be seen live on the Midco Sports Network and ESPN+. The championship game will air on ESPNU.

Summit League Championship
- South Dakota State is the No. 1 seed for the fifth time (2009, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2019) in The Summit League Championship. It sports a 25-2 (.925) championship record, the best winning percentage among current league members.
- It has won at least one tournament game in nine of 10 Summit League Championships it has been eligible for. The Jackrabbits have won eight tournament titles (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2018), the most in league history.
- SDSU has played in eight title games and has won as the top seed (2009, 2012, 2013), second seed (2015, 2016, 2018) and third seed (2010, 2011).
- The Jackrabbits are 3-0 against No. 8 seeds and 9-0 in quarterfinal games.

History in Sioux Falls
- The Summit League Championship will be held at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls for the fourth time. SDSU won the 2015, 2016 and 2018 titles as the No. 2 seed, defeating top-seeded South Dakota, 72-57, in 2015, 61-55 in 2016 and 65-50 in 2018 in the facility.
- The championship was held in the Sioux Falls Arena for the first seven years, starting in 2009. The Jackrabbits were 15-1 in that arena.

Five Top Storylines
Purdue Fort Wayne: The Jacks have won the last 21 games against Purdue Fort Wayne and holds a 33-1 all-time series advantage. State, which has 13 regular-season sweeps of the Mastodons in the series, swept the Dons this season, 85-52, Jan. 3 in Fort Wayne and, 92-68, Feb. 20, in Frost Arena. South Dakota State is 5-0 against PFW in league postseason play, last meeting March 5, 2016, and the Jacks winning, 80-60.

Defense: Defense has been a key element in the Jackrabbits' success, as the team is 20-1 when holding an opponent to 70 points-or-less, including 13-0 in Summit League-only play. State has limited 17 of its 29 opponents to 65-or-fewer points, including nine to less than 50. Seventeen of 29 opponents were limited to single-digit scoring quarters, including 12 quarters against league teams.

Offense: SDSU head coach
Aaron Johnston thinks this year's team is his most offensive-minded squad. The Jackrabbits lead The Summit League in league-only scoring offense (83.4) and second in overall games (79.4). In the last five games, the Jackrabbits are averaging 88.8 points per game and giving up just 58.8 an outing. SDSU ranks 14th in scoring offense and 13th in scoring margin (16.6) in the NCAA.

Assists: State is one of the top teams in the NCAA and The Summit League with 527 assists, 18.2 assists per game and a 1.4 assist-to-turnover ratio. It also ranks in the NCAA:
           - 8th, assist-to-turnover ratio (1.4);
           - 9th, assists per game (18.2); and
           - 10th, assists (527).
Leading the way are
Macy Miller and
Rylie Cascio Jensen. They are dishing 3.4 and 3.2 assists per game, respectively this season. In league-only games, Miller is sixth (3.6) and Cascio Jensen is seventh (3.5). Six Jackrabbits rank in the top 15 in assists per game in league-only games. In overall games, Cascio Jensen is first (2.6) and Miller second (2.5) in Summit League in assist-to-turnover ratio. Cascio Jensen ranks 21st and Miller is 25th in the NCAA in assist-to-turnover ratio.

Balanced Scoring: The Jackrabbits are known for balanced scoring, playing an average of nine players at least 10 minutes per game. At least three Jackrabbits have scored in double digits in 27 of 29 games. Additionally, they have had four-or-more players scoring in double figures in seven games and five-or-more twice.
All five starters have led State in scoring, including a team-best 14 times by
Macy Miller. All five starters are also shooting 40 percent-or-higher, led by
Tagyn Larson's 56.5 shooting percentage.
