Mather and men take first, women third in Fargo

FARGO, N.D. – The Jackrabbits cross country teams opened the 2019 season Friday night at the Bison Open in Fargo, N.D. with the men finishing first and the women third.

Friday's meet gave the Jacks a chance to preview this year's Summit League Championships course and get a look at the competition from three conference opponents.

Men:

The Jackrabbit men repeated as meet champions with 19 points coming in ahead of Summit League foes North Dakota State (50), South Dakota (73), North Dakota (122) as well as Concordia College-Moorhead (131).

Micah Mather led the Jacks and walked away with a first-place finish with a time of 18:18.1, besting his previous 6K mark of 18:55.2 from last year's Bison Open.

Behind him were Ben Olson (18:24.8, 2^nd place), 2019 Summit League Athlete to Watch Gabe Peters (18:36.1, 4^thplace), Thomas Breuckman (18:36.1, 5^th place), Joseph Minor-Williams (18:44.8 7^th place) and Lukas Nelson (18:46.5
8^th place) giving the Jacks six runners finishing in the top 10.

Women:

The Jackrabbits finished third with 59 points behind South Dakota (30 points) and North Dakota State (51 points). North Dakota (100) and Concordia-Moorhead (143) finished fourth and fifth.2019 Summit League Athlete to Watch Anna Donnay ran a personal best 14:07.7 and paced the Jacks to finish third overall in the 4K race.

Ellie Friesen crossed second for SDSU, taking eighth place overall with a time of 14:35.9.

Bridget Henne (14:54.9) finished 17th overall (4th for the Jacks) and was the first freshman of the race to finish, with the next being Leah Hansen (14:54.9) who crossed the line 21st overall (5th for the Jacks). Down the line, Jackrabbits
would make up for eight of the top 10 freshman finishers.
