OMAHA, Neb. - South Dakota State women's basketball dropped a 67-55 road game at Creighton Sunday night inside D.J. Sokol Arena.
The teams posted almost identical shooting percentages. State was 25-of-61 from the floor (41 percent) and Creighton was 26-for-60 (43 percent). The difference came from the 3-point line, where SDSU hit just two from long range and the Bluejays sank seven. Creighton also added eight points from the free throw line and South Dakota State had three.
After trailing by as many as 13 in the first half, the Jackrabbits came back within five points of the Bluejays on a
Paige Meyer 3-pointer halfway through the third quarter. A four-minute, 12-0 Creighton run, however, gave the home team a 17-point lead.
Paiton Burckhard scored four points and Meyer added three in an 11-3 Jackrabbit stretch to end the third quarter and start the fourth, putting SDSU down just nine with nine minutes remaining. Creighton pushed its lead back out to 18 again and despite the Jackrabbits ending the game 5-for-5 from the field over the last 4:35, they could only cut the deficit to 12.
Meyer paced the Jacks with 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists on the night, all team highs.
Tylee Irwin chipped in 10 points. Burckhard and
Haleigh Timmer added eight points and six rebounds apiece.
Emma Ronsiek had 18 points and nine rebounds for the Bluejays.
NOTES
- The Jackrabbits start the season 2-3 for the first time since 2009-10 and are 0-3 in road games
- SDSU is now 5-9 all-time against Creighton
- Freshman Paige Meyer was the Jacks' leading scorer for the second time this season. She is the assists and rebounds leader for the third time.

- SDSU will play Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Florida. The Jacks' first game is 10 a.m. CT Thursday against UMass.
