The South Dakota State women's basketball team slipped to 3-6 on the season Monday night with a 52-55 loss to Missouri State at Frost Arena.
The Jackrabbits had their second best shooting performance of the year, shooting 48 percent from the field, but were held to a season-low 42 attempts. SDSU committed 25 turnovers in the loss, the most of the season, which resulted in 27 points for the Bears.
Down 52-55 with 27 seconds to play, the Jacks got a block from
Kallie Theisen but were unable to control the rebound and possession stayed with the Bears.
Tylee Irwin forced a steal at :08 but her game-tying 3-point attempt was blocked. MSU missed a pair of free throws with less than two seconds remaining but the Jacks were unable to get a final shot attempt off.
Theisen posted her first career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, both season highs. She also tallied four of the team's nine total blocks on the night, a career best for the sophomore.
Irwin and
Paiton Burckhard also put up 11 points apiece. Irwin matched her career-high steal total with four and Burckhard chipped in six boards. Freshman
Paige Meyer dished out five assists.
SDSU responded to a 5-0 start by Missouri State with a 7-0 run to take the lead three minutes into the contest. The period featured three more lead changes and the Bears held a slim 17-15 margin after 10 minutes.
The Jacks regained the lead in the second quarter and led by as many as six after Theisen recorded a block, grabbed the rebound, then finished a layup at the other end. Meyer ended the quarter with a pair of free throws to put the Jacks up 29-26 at halftime.
Meyer opened the second-half scoring with another pair of free throws to extend the Jacks' advantage to five. Despite seven turnovers in the period, SDSU held onto a two-point margin with one period left. Missouri State took their final lead on the first basket of the fourth quarter and was able to hold off the Jackrabbits in the last seven minutes.
Mariah White came off the bench to score 17 points for Missouri State. Jasmine Franklin, who averages a double-double for the Bears, scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds to go with four blocked shots.

- All but two Jackrabbit points came from the starting lineup. Mesa Byom scored SDSU's only two bench points.
- Missouri State snapped the Jackrabbits' 15-game home win streak.
- Nine team blocks is a season high for the Jackrabbits.
- SDSU outrebounded MSI 34-31.
- Theisen is the first Jackrabbits to record 10+ rebounds this season.
