ELKHART, Ind. — Elisabeth Timmer broke the South Dakota State women's swimming record in the 200-yard freestyle during preliminary action Friday, earning a spot in the event's B final during the second day of competition at the 2023 CSCAA National Invitational Championship at the Beacon Health Aquatic Center.
A senior from Savaneta, Aruba, Timmer clocked a record time of 1 minute, 49.66 seconds during the morning session. That bettered the previous mark of 1:49.95 set by Richelle Bruyckere in 2018.
Timmer, whose prelim time ranked 20th among 73 competitors, remained in the 20th spot during the event finals Friday night as she came back with a time of 1:50.92.
Also on Friday, Timmer anchored the Jackrabbits' 200 medley relay, teaming with Sianne Downes, Emma Bachelder and Jenna Currier for a 41st-place time of 1:44.39.
The 800 freestyle relay quartet of Denilson Cyprianos, Anderson, Smith and Sam Johnson wound up 20th with a time of 6:44.58.
No Jackrabbit men qualified for event finals on Friday. Carstensen was the highest individual finisher in the prelims with a 28th-place showing in the 100 backstroke, 49.64 seconds.
The CSCAA National Invitational Championship concludes Saturday, with action starting at 9:30 a.m. Eastern (8:30 a.m. Central).
