No. 9 South Dakota State meets No. 1 Virginia Tech on the Hokies' home floor Sunday evening in the first all-time meeting between these programs.
SDSU is 29-5 overall mark with a 22-game win streak dating back to a December 15 loss to South Carolina. State knocked off No. 8 USC on the opening round of the NCAAÂ Tournament Friday night.
Virginia Tech is 28-4 on the year and has won 12 consecutive contests. The Hokies are 15-1 at home this season.
KEY STORYLINES
- No. 9 South Dakota State is making its 11th appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 15 seasons of Division I eligibility. The Jacks topped USC in overtime Friday night to move into Sunday's round of 32.
- Myah Selland poured in 29 points in Friday's night's overtime win, setting a new SDSU best for points scored in an NCAA postseason game. She scored 16 straight for the Jacks from the last minutes of regulation through the opening minutes of overtime.
- Prior to Friday, SDSU's last win at the NCAA Tournament came during the Jacks' run to the Sweet 16 in 2019, when Myah Selland was a sophomore and Paiton Burckhard was a freshman. 2019 is SDSU's only previous Sweet 16 experience.
- The Jacks have held opponents to 60 points or fewer in 12 of the last 13 outings.
- SDSU has won 22 consecutive games, which is a program record and is the second-longest active streak in the country. The team's last loss was to No. 1 South Carolina on December 15.
