OXFORD, Miss. - The South Dakota State volleyball team slipped to 2-7 on the year Saturday with a 3-1 loss to Tennessee Tech in the final match of the Ole Miss Invite.
The sides were even in total kills - 59 apiece - but the Eagles had the edge in aces (6-4) and blocks (16-9). The Jacks hit .147 as a team and the Eagles hit .184.
Katie Van Egdom posted her second double-double of the season with 20 kills and 10 digs. The sophomore's kill total was one shy of her career high. She also took part in three blocks and had two ace serves.
Masa Scheierman put down 13 kills for SDSU, her season high, and chipped in six digs.
Rylee Martin dished a career-best 27 assists for the yellow and blue.
Raegen Reilly added 15 assists.
Stella Winterfeld led a trio of Jacks with double-digit digs. The freshman libero produced 12 digs, followed by Martin with 11 and Van Egdom's 10.
Sydni Schetnan matched Van Egdom's three blocks (two solo, one assist).
Set One: A series of TTU errors, along with kills from Zgonc and Reilly and a Schetnan block, helped the Jackrabbits out to a 6-3 lead. The Eagles regained the lead with a four-point run. The Jackrabbits put together a 6-1 stretch to go back up 14-10. Scheierman notched consecutive kills during the run and Winterfeld had an ace. SDSU hung onto that lead until 23-19, when TTU ended the set with six straight points.
Set Two: After a 4-2 start for Tennessee Tech, the Jacks came back to lead 6-4 with four straight points. The sides traded points until a 5-0 stretch highlighted by a pair of Winter blocks pushed SDSU ahead 18-12. The Eagles responded with a run of their own, tying the set at 18-all. SDSU went ahead by two at 23-21 and finished off the set with a kill of the hand of Scheierman.
Set Three: Van Egdom had two kills and a block in a 4-0 start to set three. Tennessee Tech came back to tie it, then took an 11-7 lead with a 7-2 stretch. The Jacks got back within one a few times and tied the set at 18 with a Van Egdom ace, then again at 20 on a TTU error. The Eagles won the set with a 5-0 run.
Set Four: The Jacks and Eagles went back-and-forth through the majority of the set with four ties up to 8-8. Schetnan notched a block and a kill during a three-point run to make it 11-8. The Golden Eagles stayed within striking distance and regained the lead at 19-18. With the set tied at 20-all, Tennessee Tech used a 4-1 stretch to to it match point at 24-21. The Jacks held off two match points before the Eagles ended it with a kill.

- Van Egdom's 51 swings is her second highest of the season and most for a four-set match.
