BROOKINGS, S.D. - South Dakota State came out on the winning end of a battle between two of the Summit League's top teams Sunday night, a 96-80 victory over Oral Roberts at Frost Arena.
The highly-anticipated matchup lived up to the hype, featuring 13 lead changes and 10 ties before a 12-0 SDSU run early in the second half put the home team in control.
Against the top scoring team in the Summit, the Jackrabbits put together a big night of their own on the offensive end. SDSU finished 59 percent from the floor with 22 assists on 37 made field goals. The Jacks dominated the paint, 54-40, and shot 32-for-45 inside the 3-point arc (71 percent).
Brooklyn Meyer missed just one shot all afternoon, going 12-for-13 for 27 points. She also tallied six rebounds and blocked two shots.
Madison Mathiowetz scored 15 points on a 7-for-12 outing to go with five rebounds, five assists and a pair of steals.
Jenna Hopp scored 11 points for the Jackrabbits, her third game of the last five with at least 10 points.
Mesa Byom continued her emergence as one of the top rebounders in the Summit League, posting seven boards off the bench. The junior tallies 6.0 rebounds per game overall, ranking ninth in the Summit League, and 7.1 in conference games, ranking fourth. Byom also ended the night with 11 points on 4-for-4 shooting.
Madysen Vlastuin recorded 10 points, six rebounds and two steals for SDSU.
Paige Meyer dished a career-high 11 assists and chipped in eight points, five rebounds and three steals.
Tori Nelson finished with eight points, five assists, four rebounds and a steal.
The sides went toe-to-toe through the opening 20 minutes and were tied after the first quarter - 17-17 - and at the halftime break - 37-37. ORU put up the first points of the second half, then the Jackrabbits took control with a 12-0 run that put them ahead for good. Mathiowetz sparked the run with a mid-range jumper, followed by a layup from
Paige Meyer and consecutive triples from Vlastuin.

Paige Meyer for the 10-point lead.
ORU came back within eight points of the Jacks, but SDSU quickly pushed its lead back to double digits and maintained that advantage the rest of the way.
The Jackrabbits tallied 45 rebounds on the afternoon and held Oral Roberts to just 18 boards in the entire contest. SDSU scored 19 second-chance points off 17 offensive rebounds. SDSU turned the ball over 16 times in the first half, but played with more composure in the second half and finished with 22 overall. Oral Roberts scored 27 points off turnovers compared to 15 points off 12 ORU turnovers for the Jackrabbits.
Jalei Oglesby paced Oral Roberts with 23 points, followed by 19 from Hannah Cooper. Cooper handed out six assists.

- The Jackrabbits are 30-6 all-time against the Golden Eagles.
- Paige Meyer's 11 assists is two shy of the SDSU program record. It is the most assists in a game by a Jackrabbit since at least the 2009-10 season.Â
- Brooklyn Meyer is tied with Kallie Theisen for single-season blocks by a sophomore in SDSU history. Meyer has 42 blocks this year. The SDSU sophomore record is 52.
