MINNEAPOLIS — The South Dakota State women's swimming and diving team came away with a split during triangular action Friday afternoon at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.

The Jackrabbits moved to 1-2 on the season after defeating Summit League rival St. Thomas, 154.5-145.5, while also dropping a 250-50 decision to Minnesota. The 23rd-ranked Golden Gophers had at least the top two finishers in all 16 events contested during the competition and completed the sweep with a 253-47 victory over St. Thomas.

Sophomore Gigi Hioki recorded a pair of third-place overall finishes in the freestyle events to pace the Jackrabbits. She began the night with a third-place time of 1 minute, 52.69 seconds in the 200-yard freestyle and later notched another third-place mark of 5:09.64 in the 500 freestyle.

Hioki also was SDSU's top finisher in the 100 freestyle by placing fifth in 52.51 seconds.

Freshman Kailee Crane was the Jackrabbits' top finisher in three other events, highlighted by a third-place showing in the 100 individual medley, 1:00.23. A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Crane also led the Jacks in the 200 backstroke by tying for fifth in 2:09.67 and the 400 IM with a sixth-place time of 4:39.54.

Adding a third-place individual finish was sophomore Poppy Mead in the 200 butterfly after clocking a time of 2:07.93.

The Jackrabbits cushioned their advantage over St. Thomas by placing three swimmers in the top eight of the 100 butterfly. Freshman Isabella Gnewuch led the SDSU trio with a fifth-place time of 58.92 seconds, followed by Jenna Currier, sixth in 1:00.08, and Hannah Warmbrand, eighth in 1:00.16.

SDSU is scheduled to return to competition Nov. 1-2 at the Husky Extravaganza in Rochester, Minnesota.
