South Dakota State's women's 800-yard freestyle relay team closed out a dual victory with a Marshall Center Pool record as the Jackrabbits downed a short-handed Iowa Central squad, 204-24, Friday afternoon.
The quartet of Gigi Hioki, Hannah Miller, Sara Juez and Emma Schultz combined for a winning time of 7 minutes, 45.24 seconds to shatter the previous women's pool standard of 8:03.03 set by the University of Mary in 2018.
Juez also was a two-time individual winner for the Jackrabbits, who claimed 13 of 14 events. A junior from Zaragoza, Spain, Juez won both the 50 freestyle in 24.98 seconds and the 500 freestyle in 5:19.44, edging teammate Schultz by .14 seconds in the latter event.
Freshman Isabella Gnewuch contributed two more event wins for SDSU, claiming the 1,000 freestyle (11:04.47) and the 200 backstroke (2:10.71).
Fellow first-year swimmers Elyse Jahn and Brooklyn Flemming also were Jackrabbit event winners in the 200 freestyle (2:02.09) and 100 freestyle (:56.46), respectively.
Sophomores Poppy Mead and Gigi Hioki swept the top spots in the butterfly events, with Mead winning the 100-yard race in 1:01.08 and Hioki taking first in the 200 fly (2:08.98).
Completing the Jackrabbit list of individual winners were veterans Jenna Currier in the 200 backstroke (1:02.08), Morgan Nelson in the 200 breaststroke (2:33.07) and Kaylin de Almeida in the 200 individual medley (2:14.07).
Currier also swam the leadoff leg of the Jackrabbits' 200 medley relay, teaming with Kailee Crane, Aubrey Douds and Lily Esmas for a top time of 1:51.35.
Jenna Braun was the lone event winner for Iowa Central as she earned the top spot in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:11.50 to clip de Almeida by .01 seconds.

The Jackrabbits resume action Nov. 21-23 at the St. Thomas Invite in St. Paul, Minnesota. Preliminary action begins at 10 a.m. each day, followed by event finals at 5:30 p.m.
