LINCOLN, Neb. — The South Dakota State women's swimming and diving team dropped both ends of a season-opening tri-dual Friday afternoon against Nebraska and Omaha at the Devaney Natatorium.
The Jackrabbits fell by scores of 223-77 to the host Cornhuskers and 217-83 to Summit League rival Omaha.
Senior Jenna Currier recorded the highest finish for SDSU with a runner-up effort in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.34 seconds. Currier also placed fourth in the 50 freestyle (24.26 seconds).
Junior Gigi Hioki turned in a pair of third-place individual performances, clocking times of 52.78 seconds in the 100 freestyle and 1 minute, 53.62 seconds in the 200 freestyle.
Hioki and Currier also made up half of SDSU's third-place 400 freestyle relay, teaming with Mia Pendleton and Hannah Miller for a time of 3:33.54.
Rounding out the top performances for the Jackrabbits was Poppy Mead with fourth-place showings in both the 1,000 freestyle (10:54.20) and 200 butterfly (2:10.50).
For Nebraska, Aberdeen native Gena Jorgenson was a three-time individual winner, claiming the 1,000 freestyle (10:03.42), 200 backstroke (2:02.96) and 200 individual medley (2:06.76). She also swam on the winning 400 freestyle relay (3:28.05).
