CEDAR CITY, Utah - The South Dakota State rebounded from a five-set loss at UMKC on Thursday with a five-set win at Southern Utah, and in a similar match. Just as the Jackrabbits won the first two sets on Thursday and lost the match, the Jacks lost the first two sets at SUU and won the match.
The Jacks, who won by the set scores of 24-26, 24-26, 25-20, 25-23 and 15-11, improve to 6-9 overall and 5-3 in The Summit League with their first road win of the season.
The Thunderbirds fall to 4-12 overall and 2-5 in league play.
Ellyce Youngren led four Jackrabbits with double-digit kills with 19, Fiona Jones added 16 kills and 12 digs for her team leading eighth double-double of the season. Kaitlin Klingemann pitched-in with a career-high 16 kills and Kelly Herrmann added 10 kills in the win.
Nicole Peters handled the setting duties for the Jacks with a career high 43 and added a pair of block assists in the win.
Shay Birath led the Jackrabbit defense with a career-high 20 digs.
Analaine Pelaez led the T-Birds and all players with 21 kills.
The T-Birds let set-point slip away two times in the first set, but did not let it slip away a third time to get the 26-24 win.
The second set needed more than 25 points to get a winner as well, as came from behind to get another 26-24 win to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
The Jacks led from start to finish in the third set win and then won a fourth set battle that saw 17 ties and six lead changes to force a fifth and deciding set.
Southern Utah took an early 2-0 lead in the fifth set led 6-2 when the Jacks erupted for a 6-0 run to take an 8-6 lead that they did not relinquish, winning the set 15-11 and the match 3-2.
The Jackrabbits return to action with a pair of matches this week, first at Drake on Wednesday before returning home to host North Dakota State on Saturday.
