DES MOINES, Iowa - The South Dakota State volleyball team hung with Drake early, but the Bulldogs eventually pulled away and never looked back in a 3-0 sweep of the Jackrabbits in non-conference action on Wednesday in Des Moines.
The loss drops the Jacks to 6-10 on the season, while Drake improves to 12-7.
Ellyce Youngren led all players with 10 kills in the match, but did not get much help, as the Jacks struggled to hit .132 for the match.
Alisa Roth DeBerg and Angela Bys both finished with eight kills to lead the Bulldogs, who hit .294 for the match.
SDSU scored the first two points of the match and played to a 9-all tie in the first set, but Drake broke the tie with a 4-0 run and used a 5-0 run and another 4-0 run to run away with the first set 25-17.
Drake the jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in the second set and never looked back in another 25-17 win to go up 2-0 in the match.
The Bulldogs lead 19-10 in the third set when the Jacks rattled off a 7-1 run to get back into the set, but could not fully recover, as Drake went on to win the deciding set 25-19.
The Jackrabbits return home and to Summit League play on Saturday, but the competition does not get any easier, as the Jacks host conference leader North Dakota State in Frost Arena at 7 p.m.
The favorites to repeat as league champions, the Bison come to Brookings riding a 27-match conference winning streak that dates back to Nov. 2, 2007.
