Jackrabbit freshman Fiona Jones hit .345 with 12 kills on Friday at the Green Bay Country Inn & Suites Classic against Iowa, but the Hawkeyes came away with the 3-1 win.
Iowa, who improves to a perfect 4-0 with the win, won by the set scores of 20-25, 25-18, 25-15 and 25-22. The loss drops South Dakota State to 1-3 on the season.
The Jacks battled through six lead changes and nine tie scores to win the first set, but Iowa took control of the match midway though the second set and never looked back.
Sophomore Kelli Fiegen also finished with 12 kills in the match and hit .300, but a pair of Hawkeyes recorded 14 kills and two more finished with 10, including Mallory Husz, who hit just one error in 19 attempts for a .474 hitting percentage.
The Jacks return to action with a pair of matches on Saturday, starting with the host Phoenix at 1:30 p.m., followed by Central Michigan at 4:30 p.m.
