ST. THOMAS, Virginia Islands—The South Dakota State women's basketball team set the 3-point school record Saturday in its win over Old Dominion in the Paradise Jam at the University of the Virgin Islands Sports and Fitness Center.
The Jackrabbits (4-2) sank a school-record 17 3-pointers. The 3-point mark betters the previous record of 16 set three times, the last vs. TCU March 22, 2009, to tie the then-NCAA Tournament record.
Junior Kerri Young (Mitchell) set two personal marks, scoring a career- and game-high 24 points. The guard also sank a career-best 7 3-pointers on 10 attempts.
Sophomore Macy Miller (Mitchell) tallied 19 points and was 5 of 6 from beyond the arc.
Young and Miller were both named to the all-tournament team.
Destinee Young and Annika Holopainen each scored 10 points to lead Old Dominion (1-6).
After trailing most of the first half, Young sank her fourth 3-pointer of the half to ignite a 7-0 run to put SDSU up 24-19 with just over four minutes to play. The Jackrabbits collected six 3-pointer's in the half.
South Dakota State held a 50-35 lead at the end of the third quarter after the Jackrabbits sank five 3-pointers and limited the Lady Monarchs to seven points.
SDSU's defense tightened in the fourth quarter, allowing ODU just four points while the Jacks made six 3-pointers.
The Jackrabbits return to action Dec. 3 when they host Portland State a 7 p.m. in the friendly confines of Frost Arena.
