SOUTH DAKOTA STATE STORYLINES
• South Dakota State opened exhibition play Oct. 29 with a commanding 79-44 win over St. Cloud State. With the win, the Jackrabbits are 17-0 in exhibition games since entering the D-I era. The most points scored in an exhibition are 105 in 2008 vs. Minnesota-Crookston and the fewest were 63 vs. Bemidji State in 2010.
• Jackrabbits head coach Aaron Johnston's starting five vs. the Huskies were juniors Clarissa Ober and Kerri Young, sophomores Macy Miller and Ellie Thompson and freshman Madison Guebert. All 13 Jacks played.
• Four Jacks scored in double digits led by senior Gabrielle Boever's 14 points off the bench. In her return to the court after sitting out last season, the guard would have tied a career high, sinking three 3-pointers. She also added four rebounds, two assists and a game-high three steals.
• Clarissa Ober and Ellie Thompson combined for 17 of the Jackrabbits' 45 rebounds. Thompson had 5 of the team's 19 offensive boards.
• Eleven of the 13 Jacks had an assist vs. the Huskies led by Kerri Young's four.
• South Dakota State returns eight letterwinners from its squad that finished 24-9 overall and 12-4 in The Summit League a season ago. It must replace two starters who averaged nearly 35 percent of the Jackrabbits scoring in 2014-15.
• The Jackrabbits played in their sixth NCAA tournament game in 2014-15 after winning their eighth Summit League Tournament title.
• Boever will be chasing the SDSU career steals record. The point guard enters her final year with 189 steals and needs two steals to enter the top 10. She also will be climbing The Summit League chart, needing 27 to enter the top 20.
• Ober has 62 career blocks and needs 20 this season to pass Leah Klaassen for 10th on the career list.
• Last season, Miller finished the year with 19 consecutive made free throws made after having her streak of 27 snapped Feb. 21, 2015, at Omaha.
PRESEASON NO. 1
South Dakota State was selected the preseason favorite to win The Summit League women's basketball regular season title in a vote of the league's head coaches, sports information directors and the media, the conference announced Oct. 15.
It is the fourth consecutive year the Jackrabbits have topped the preseason rankings. SDSU was also picked No. 1 in 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15. It was also selected preseason No. 1 in 2008-09 and 2009-10. The Jackrabbits have won five of the last seven Summit League regular-season titles.
