PEORIA, Illinois—The South Dakota State volleyball team battled for two sets, but fell short Friday afternoon, losing in three sets to Grand Canyon in the CEFCU Invitational in Renaissance Coliseum.

The Jackrabbits (1-11) fell 25-23, 26-24 and 25-19 to the Lopes (5-5).

Sophomores
Ashlynn Smith and
Makenzie Hennen registered seven kills each. Freshman
Macy Smith added five kills and a team-high three block assists. Freshman
Maddie Fay had a team- and career-high nine digs.

Turning Points
After multiple runs in the first set and tied 23-23, Grand Canyon won the first set with a pair of kills.

The Jacks had three set points in the second set, but again gave up two Lopes' kills in the loss.

With the third set tied at 10-10, Grand Canyon used a 9-1 run to take a 19-11 lead. SDSU answered with a 5-1 run to pull within 21-16, but the Lopes outscored the Jacks 4-3 down the stretch.

Notables
- Mattison Munger recorded 15 set assists and now has 1,784 career assists. She ranks 10th on the SDSU career assists list.
- Payton Richardson had a personal-best six digs.
- The Jackrabbits had 10 block assists vs. Grand Canyon. It was the sixth time this season with 10-or-more block assists in a match.
