RAPID CITY, S.D. - The South Dakota State women's basketball team shot better than 50 percent for the third time this season to beat Montana 95-71 Saturday night at Summit Arena at the Monument.
SDSU finished the game 56 percent from the floor with five players reaching double figures in the scoring column to improve to 4-0 on the season. Montana slipped to 1-3.
Brooklyn Meyer led the Jackrabbits with her second double-double of the year and a standout passing effort. The senior tallied 25 points, 11 rebounds and five assists on the night to go with one block and one steal.
Emilee Fox put up a career-high 16 points with four 3-pointers for the Jacks. She also matched Meyer's team-high five assists and grabbed four rebounds.
Madison Mathiowetz finished with 13 points and six rebounds, both season highs.
Mahli Abdouch came off the bench to go 4-for-6 from the floor with a trio of 3-pointers for her 11 points. Abdouch dished four assists and had three boards.
Katie Vasecka rounded out the players in double digits with 10 points while contributing seven rebounds and four assists.
Hadley Thul and
Maggie Hartwig scored seven points apiece and combined for nine rebounds.
The Jackrabbits put up at least 20 points in all four quarters, including a 20-point effort in the final 10 minutes. Mathiowetz went 3-for-3 during the first period, which helped the Jackrabbits lead by as many as 11. The sides traded points through the majority of the second, but five straight
Brooklyn Meyer points early and a 6-0 run late had SDSU up 46-33 at halftime. Meyer went on a 9-0 run on her own to open up the second half, stretching the Jackrabbit lead to 22, and SDSU cruised from there.
The Grizzlies were 41 percent from the floor with 16 3-pointers. The Jackrabbits knocked down 10 treys, paced for Fox's four, and had 23 assists as a team. The Jacks out-rebounded the Griz 49-20, including 17 to 6 in offensive boards. The Jackrabbits scored 15 second chance points. Montana had a 12-6 advantage in steals.
