FORT WAYNE, Ind. ? IPFW sent South Dakota State to another loss Friday night, defeating the Jackrabbits in straight sets to send SDSU to 1-12 overall and 0-3 in Summit League Play.
IPFW won the match by the set scores of 25-21, 25-18 and 25-22 to improve to 8-8 overall and 4-1 in league play.
Despite the loss, Mackenzie Angner led all players with a match-high 16 kills in 41 swings with eight errors for a .195 hitting percentage. She also led the Jacks with 10 digs to for the match's only double-double.
Ellyce Youngren pitched in with eight kills in 24 attempts with just one error for a .292 hitting percentage and added a match-high six block assists.
Rebekah Roehm led IPFW with 15 kills and a .353 hitting percentage, Jessica Miller added 11 kills with a .300 hitting percentage.
The Jacks finished the match with 12 total blocks, 4.5 more than the Mastodons, but IPFW recorded five service aces and six service errors while the SDSU finished with three services and eight service errors.
IPFW took an early three-point lead in the first set with a 4-1 run to open the match, but SDSU battled back to tie the match at seven.
The ?Don's broke the tie and held a 12-10 lead when they erupted for a 6-0 run that ended with IPFW on top 18-10.
SDSU continued to battle, but never got any closer than three points in the set.
The second set started with seven ties before either team could score eight points, but IPFW broke the 7-all tie with three straight points and never trailed again. SDSU would get back to within one at 15-14, but the Mastodons scored five of the next six points to secure the second set win.
Both teams played close again to start the third set, but IPFW pulled away after five early ties and built an 18-12 lead that the Jackrabbits could not overcome.
The Jacks try to snap their skid on Saturday, when they travel to Rochester, Mich., to take on Summit League foe Oakland (4-12, 1-4 Summit), who fell to league leader North Dakota State 3-0 on Friday.
