FARGO ? North Dakota State sent South Dakota State to its 11th straight loss and second straight Summit League loss on Saturday in Fargo with a four-set win.
The Bison won by the set scores 25-15, 25-16, 20-25, 25-23 to improve to 8-3 overall and 2-0 in league play. The Jackrabbits, who picked up a third-set win four of their five 3-1 losses, fall to 1-11 overall and 0-2 in The Summit League.
Mackenzie Angner again led the Jacks with 18 kills and 21 digs, Ellyce Youngren finished with 11 kills and a team-high .308 hitting percentage. Ashley Kathol came on strong late and finished with eight kills.
Chrissy Knuth led the Bison and tied Angner with a match-high 18 kills, Brooke VandenBergh added 15 and Kristen Hille 13 in the win.
SDSU opened the match with a 4-1 run, but NDSU came back to tie the match at 7-all, then erupted for a 12-1 run to secure the 25-15 first-set win.
The Bison carried that momentum into the second set and used a 6-0 and a 4-0 run in the middle of the match easily win the set 25-16.
The Jacks jumped out to a 4-1 lead again in the third set, only to see the Bison come back to tie the match at four, five and six, but a Nicole Peters kill broke the tie and the Jacks never trailed again in the set.
The Jackrabbit lead would get as large as six-points at 15-9 and the Bison would come back to within two-points at 20-18 and at 21-19, but a Melia Iwamoto kill ended the set with a 25-20 Jacks win.
Neither team could build any kind of a lead in the fourth set, but the Bison broke a 2-2 tie and led until the Jacks came back to tie the set at 12-all. Four ties followed, the last being at 21-21 before the Bison finally sealed the set 25-23 and the match 3-1.
The Bison finished the match with a .261 team hitting percentage, while the Jacks hit .146 for the match. SDSU recorded four service aces and seven service errors, while the Bison managed just one ace and nine errors.
The Jacks return to action on Friday, when they travel to Fort Wayne, Ind., to take on IPFW at 7 p.m. ET.
