MEET 4: South Dakota State at Briar Cliff Invitational |
BROOKINGS, SD – South Dakota State cross country will hit the road on Saturday for the Briar Cliff Invitational at the Adams Nature Preserve in North Sioux City, SD.
Action starts with the women's 6k race at 10:30 a.m. while the men's 8k will follow at 11:15 a.m. Nearly 350 athletes will be in competition for each race at the meet.

The South Dakota State men's cross country took 10
th place in the team standings in an elite competition field at the Roy Griak Invitational on Friday.
SDSU finished tenth overall in the team standings, led by
Carson Noecker's 15
th place finish in 24:38.7 for the highest placing by a Summit League athlete.
Josh Becker was next for the Jacks as he clocked a 25:26.2 for 63
rd and
Cody Larson came 69
th with a 25:37.5.
Daniel Burkhalter and Will Lohr rounded out the top five scoring runners for SDSU in 78
th (25:48.0) and 92
nd place (26:04.1), respectively.
Jackson Dutcher ran a 26:14.6 for 103
rd,
Christian Noble was 108
th with a 26:24.4 and
Luke Johnson finished 155
th in a time of 28:09.9.
174 athletes competed in the field of 18 teams for the Merrill Fischbein 8k at the Les Bolstad Golf Course.
The SDSU men finished tenth in the team standings with 278 points and the highest team finish by a Summit League squad. California Baptist won the men's 8k with 46 points.
WOMEN
The South Dakota State women's cross country team finished in 10
th place in the team standings of the women's 6k at the Roy Griak Invitational on Friday morning.
Leah (Hansen) Hisken led the way for the Jackrabbits as she clocked a 21:44.7 for 19
th place out of 202 athletes.
Mya Kizer was next in 56
th place with a time of 22:22.9 and
Jessica Lutmer ran a 22:35.5 for 63
rd.
Caitlin Bright was 73
rd in 22:48.9 and
Claire Beckman rounded out the scoring runners in 84
th place with a 23:08.7.
Grace Waage ran a 23:22.6 for 102

Sierra Watterud clocked a personal best of 23:29.1 for 109

REGIONAL RANKINGS: The Week three Division I cross country rankings decided by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association were announced Aug. 29
th with the Jackrabbit men jumping one spot to 8
th in the Midwest region while the women fell one spot to 14
th.
SDSU MEN PICKED FIRST, WOMEN SECOND IN PRESEASON POLL: The SDSU men were chosen to continue their streak of Summit League championship titles while the women were picked second following a 2022 season that saw a record seventh-straight title for the men and second place finish for the women.

- Took second place at the Augustana Twilight with a four-mile time of 19:18.4
- Clocked a season-best 8K time of 24:27.5 at the Weiss-Crockett Invitational

- Placed 27th at the NCAA Midwest Regional running the 10K in a personal-best time of 30:09.7

- First athlete to take home three consecutive Female Cross Country Athlete of the Year honors (2020, 2021, 2022)
- Earned her third consecutive League individual title and Championship MVP honor while helping the Jacks to a runner-up finish in the team standings at the 2022 League Championships
- Placed 19th at the 2022 NCAA Midwest Regional with a time of 20:40.0
- Top-20 finish at the NCAA Midwest Regional helped pace the Jacks to 10th place in the team standings, the highest finish for an SDSU team in the Division I era

- Earned second team All-League honors with an 11th-place finish at the 2022 League Championships
- Had a season-best 6K race at the Bradley Pink Classic with a time of 21:21.4
